A Day Out at West Wittering Beach

West Wittering Beach is a large sandy stretch of unspoilt British coastline. Known for its super clean water and high quality facilities, the beach is recognised with Blue Flag status for its excellence. Expect to see colourful beach huts and spectacular views of Chichester Harbour and South Downs. Popular as a family day out, the wide areas of grassland situated behind the sand dunes make it a perfect picnic spot. The Beach Café is also open daily from 10am and wind and kitesurfing is a popular activity.

At just under half an hour’s drive from our West Sussex campsite, a trip to West Wittering is a must. Pack your picnic, bucket and spade and off you go!

The Beach

West Wittering really comes alive during the summer months. When the tide goes out a vast area of beach is available for large numbers of visitors to enjoy space to unwind on the sand. The spacious beach is great for kids to run around or build a sandcastle. The calm waters at West Wittering are perfect for a paddle in the sea.

Fun for all the family

West Wittering is a popular seaside destination for families. The beach can provide hours of blissful relaxation in the warmer months. There are several nearby pubs and restaurants in the picturesque Village of West Wittering. A truly beautiful part of West Sussex in peaceful rural surroundings.

If you’re visiting in the more chilly off-peak seasons and relaxing on the beach is not so appealing, there are many walks and cultural attractions nearby. See our guide to things to do in Brighton if you’re looking for a livelier day of activities and nightlife on the West Sussex coast.

Dog friendly beach

Although West Wittering is dog friendly everywhere along the beach between the end of September to the end of April, it’s worth noting there are restrictions on dogs at other times during the year. In summer (May to September), dogs are allowed on the beach, but only permitted outside groynes 14A-18. This is essentially the area directly in front of the coloured beach huts.

For visitors staying at our dog friendly campsite we recommended double checking first, see the official West Wittering Estate website for more details.

West Wittering has long been a favourite beach for windsurfers and kitesurfers. The natural tides in the lagoon make it ideal for these water sports. From March to October, you can expect to see windsurfers in the sea, however the beach is restricted to members of the West Wittering Windsurf Club only.
